RR Residence is a contemporary luxury villa designed as a private retreat within the warm tropical setting of Cumbum, Tamil Nadu. The residence is conceived as a seamless blend of architecture, landscape, and climate-responsive design, balancing openness with privacy.
Planned on a long, linear plot, the house is organized around courtyards, double-height volumes, and transitional semi-open spaces that enhance natural ventilation and daylight penetration. The spatial planning carefully segregates public, semi-private, and private zones while maintaining strong visual connections across floors.
The ground floor accommodates expansive living and entertainment spaces, including a double-height living area, home theatre, an indoor courtyard and master bedrooms, all opening towards landscaped pockets. The upper level houses the private family spaces, with bedrooms overlooking courtyards and terraces, ensuring privacy without compromising openness. Recreational zones, including a decked swimming pool and outdoor lounge, form the heart of the residence, encouraging indoor–outdoor living.
The architectural expression is defined by bold horizontal roof planes, textured surfaces, vertical fins, and perforated screens, which act as passive shading elements suited to the local climate. A refined palette of stone, wood-finish louvers, concrete textures, and geometric cladding lends the façade a strong yet elegant identity. Green pockets, planter ledges, and water features soften the massing and reinforce the connection to nature.
