The Stack

Situated on a compact 36’ × 94’ urban plot along the busy streets of R.S. Puram, Coimbatore, this mixed-use project responds to the intensity of its context through a carefully layered architectural strategy. In a neighbourhood known for its commercial vibrancy and refined residential character, the building negotiates visibility, privacy, and functionality within a limited footprint.
The ground floor is dedicated to a jewellery showroom, forming the project’s public face. Set back slightly from the street, the entrance creates a subtle threshold between the bustling sidewalk and the interior. Transparent glazing and controlled lighting establish a sense of openness while reinforcing the elegance and trust associated with the brand.
Above the commercial base, the first and second floors accommodate a private duplex residence for the client, lifted away from the street to ensure comfort and privacy. The home is conceived as a vertical living experience, where light, volume, and visual connectivity define everyday spaces. Curved façade elements soften the building’s mass, while deep frames provide shading, privacy, and a distinct architectural identity.
Natural light and ventilation play a key role in shaping the interiors, complemented by integrated greenery that brings warmth and calm into the dense urban setting. The façade becomes both an environmental filter and an expressive element, clearly differentiating the residential levels from the commercial base below.
The terrace floor is planned as a future café an adaptable social space overlooking the neighbourhood. Though not immediately activated, it is designed as an extension of the building’s evolving program, allowing the structure to grow with time.
Unified by a consistent material palette and fluid geometry, the building stands as a contemporary mixed-use landmark in R.S. Puram. Within a constrained site and a high-visibility location, the project demonstrates how architecture can balance commerce, living, and future leisure through thoughtful spatial planning and a strong yet sensitive urban presence.
