The Slide
The Slide is a G+2 residential building built across a 4000sq.feet site located in a well-established, centrally located residential and commercial locality in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. It is envisioned as a sculpted urban dwelling where architecture unfolds as a continuous flow rather than a static form. The massing is carefully carved to create movement across the façade, expressed through soft curves and layered planes that dissolve the rigidity of a conventional vertical residence.
The building engages the street with a calm yet confident presence. Horizontal slabs extend and retract, forming shaded balconies and terraces that act as transitional spaces between the interior and the city.
The architectural language is restrained and timeless, relying on proportion, material honesty, and spatial continuity rather than ornamentation. Curves guide movement, edges are softened, and boundaries are blurred, resulting in a home that feels both dynamic and serene.
Ultimately, the residence is not just a structure but a lived narrative—one that celebrates flow, light, and quiet luxury, responding thoughtfully to its urban context while offering a deeply personal and immersive domestic environment.
The planning strategy is driven by a balance between openness and enclosure, structured around natural light and functional zoning. Public and semi-public spaces are anchored on the lower levels, designed as expansive, interconnected zones that open toward landscaped courts and balconies, enhancing spatial continuity.
Upper floors are organized as private domains, housing bedrooms, leisure spaces, and wellness areas. Each level is planned with a clear hierarchy—active spaces positioned toward open edges and quieter functions placed inward. Transitional spaces such as passages, lounges, and balconies are treated as experiential zones rather than mere circulation.
A central vertical core ensures smooth circulation, while courtyards and skylights act as planning anchors, visually linking multiple floors and reinforcing a sense of openness within the vertical volume. The planning reflects a thoughtful response to lifestyle, climate, and urban context, resulting in a residence that is both efficient and experientially rich.
